The city grid is the hardest place in Adelaide to learn and the best place to get good. The one way pairs mean you commit to a direction a block early, the tram runs down King William Street with its own signals and its own right of way, and the bike lanes put a rider in your blind spot exactly when you want to turn left.
Parking is the other reason we bring learners here. Reverse parallel parking on a quiet suburban street and reverse parallel parking on Gilbert Street with traffic waiting behind you are different skills, and only one of them is the one you will use.
North Adelaide adds the park lands roundabouts and O’Connell Street, where the gaps are short and the give way decisions come quickly. If you can drive Norwood and the CBD comfortably, the rest of the metro area feels slow.
Prospect sits close enough to the city that lessons here get straight to the point. Prospect Road itself is busy, has parked cars along much of it, and gives you the stop start traffic and lane discipline practice that quieter suburbs cannot.
