Manoeuvre guide

Moving Off

Pulling away from the kerb safely

Taught in Adelaide since 2007 · Updated

The five second signal here is the all time favourite immediate fail item, so do not rush it.

  1. Check your mirror
  2. Signal to the right and hold it for a full 5 seconds
  3. Select Drive
  4. Check the centre mirror and your blind spot
  5. Release the handbrake when it is clear
  6. Ease on the accelerator and cancel the signal

This guide is a practice and teaching aid. It does not replace the official road rules and it does not guarantee the result of your driving test. The authoritative source for licence rules in South Australia is mylicence.sa.gov.au.

Learn this one in the car.

Reading it helps. Doing it with someone watching, in a car with a second brake, is what makes it stick.
