Manoeuvre guide

Turning Left and Right

At intersections and side streets

Taught in Adelaide since 2007 · Updated

Every turn follows the same system: mirror, signal, position, look, then turn.

Left turn

  1. Mirror, then signal left in good time
  2. Keep left and slow to a safe turning speed
  3. Look both ways and give way as needed
  4. Turn into the left lane, keeping close to your side

Right turn

  1. Mirror, then signal right in good time
  2. Move toward the centre line and slow down
  3. Look both ways and choose a safe gap
  4. Turn into the correct lane without cutting the corner

Reading it helps. Doing it with someone watching, in a car with a second brake, is what makes it stick.
