Straddling Line (Lane Line)
Staying inside your lane
Keep the whole car inside your lane. Sitting on or straddling a lane line is an offence and costs marks.
Keep your vehicle completely within one marked lane. Do not let your wheels touch or straddle the line.
- Broken or single lines: you may cross when it is safe to overtake, turn, or enter and leave the road.
- Double continuous lines: do not cross these to overtake or do a U-turn.
- Cross any line only to avoid an obstruction or to give a bike rider safe room to pass.
- Passing a bike rider: you may cross a single or double line, but only with a clear view ahead and when it is fully safe.
