Manoeuvre guide

Stopping

Pulling over and securing the car

Taught in Adelaide since 2007 · Updated

Use this every time you bring the car to rest at the kerb.

  1. Choose a safe, legal place to stop
  2. Check your mirror and signal to the left
  3. Slow down and stop smoothly, parallel to and within 300mm of the kerb
  4. Apply the handbrake
  5. Move the gear selector to Park
  6. Cancel the signal

This guide is a practice and teaching aid. It does not replace the official road rules and it does not guarantee the result of your driving test. The authoritative source for licence rules in South Australia is mylicence.sa.gov.au.

Learn this one in the car.

Reading it helps. Doing it with someone watching, in a car with a second brake, is what makes it stick.
